Overview:

Insulin resistance means the body's cells respond less readily to insulin, so the pancreas compensates by producing more of it. That compensation can continue for years while blood sugar still looks normal, which is why fasting glucose alone can miss the process early on. This panel measures intact insulin and C-peptide, a fragment released in equal amounts whenever insulin is made, and combines them into a calculated score. Together they give a picture of how hard the pancreas is working. Results are interpreted alongside glucose, HbA1c and other factors rather than on their own, and a raised score is not a diagnosis of diabetes.
