Cardio IQ Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy
- Overview:
-
Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and phosphate, which makes it important for bone strength, and it has roles in muscle and immune function. Your body makes vitamin D3 in skin exposed to sunlight, while D2 comes mainly from supplements and some fortified foods. Both are converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the form that circulates longest and best reflects overall status, which is why it is the form measured rather than active vitamin D. Reporting D2 and D3 separately shows how much is coming from supplementation. Low levels are common, particularly in winter and with limited sun exposure.
