CRP

Overview:
C-reactive protein is made by the liver and rises within hours when there is inflammation anywhere in the body. Because it responds quickly and falls again as inflammation settles, it is useful for following how a condition is changing over time, which is its most common role: tracking an infection, a flare of an inflammatory condition, or recovery after surgery. What it cannot do is say where the inflammation is or what is causing it, since almost any inflammatory process will raise it. For assessing cardiovascular risk, the more sensitive hs-CRP test is used instead.
