Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (CCP) Antibody (IgG)
- Overview:
-
Anti-CCP antibodies are directed against proteins that have undergone a chemical change called citrullination. They are strongly associated with rheumatoid arthritis and are considerably more specific to it than rheumatoid factor, which also appears in other conditions and in some healthy people. Anti-CCP can be detectable years before joint symptoms begin, and its presence is associated with a more erosive course, so it contributes to decisions about how early and how intensively to treat. A negative result does not exclude rheumatoid arthritis, since a proportion of people with the condition never develop these antibodies.
