Estrogens, Total, Immunoassay
- Overview:
-
This test reports total estrogens, meaning the main estrogens measured together rather than separated into estradiol, estrone and estriol. It gives a broad indication of overall estrogen activity. Because it combines hormones that differ considerably in potency and that dominate at different life stages, a total on its own is less informative than measuring them individually, and fractionated testing is usually preferred when the distinction matters. Total estrogens can be useful as a general screen, in monitoring certain treatments, and in situations where the overall level rather than its composition is the question.
