Estrone

Overview:
Estrone is one of the three main estrogens. It is less potent than estradiol, but it becomes the predominant estrogen after menopause, when ovarian estradiol production falls and most remaining estrogen is produced in fat tissue instead. The body can convert estrone and estradiol back and forth. Measuring estrone is useful when assessing menopausal status, when investigating estrogen levels in people with higher body fat, where estrone can be relatively high, and when monitoring some hormone treatments. It is usually interpreted alongside estradiol rather than on its own.
