Hepatitis B Surface Antibody Immunity, Quantitative

Overview:
Hepatitis B surface antibody appears after successful vaccination or after recovery from a hepatitis B infection, and its presence indicates protection against the virus. This test reports the amount rather than just presence, which matters because immunity is generally considered established above a particular level. It is most often used to confirm a vaccine has taken, which is routinely checked for healthcare workers, people receiving dialysis, and infants born to infected parents. A low or absent result in a vaccinated person may prompt a further dose. This test measures immunity, not current infection.
