Hepatitis C Antibody

Overview:
Hepatitis C is a virus spread through blood-to-blood contact, most commonly through shared injecting equipment, and less often through sex or from parent to child. Many people have no symptoms for years while the liver is gradually affected, which is why testing is recommended at least once for all adults. This test looks for antibodies, which show that the virus has been encountered. Because antibodies persist after the infection clears, whether spontaneously or after treatment, a positive result needs a follow-up test for viral RNA to establish whether the infection is still active. Hepatitis C is now curable in most cases.
