Inhibin B
- Overview:
-
Inhibin B is made by granulosa cells in developing ovarian follicles and by Sertoli cells in the testes, and it acts back on the pituitary to restrain FSH release. In women it has been used as a marker of ovarian reserve, though anti-Mullerian hormone is now generally preferred because it is more stable across the menstrual cycle. In men, inhibin B reflects the function of the cells that support sperm production and is sometimes used when investigating low sperm counts. It is also used in monitoring certain ovarian tumors that secrete it.
