Measles Antibody (IgG), Immune Status

Overview:
Measles IgG antibodies develop after infection with measles or after vaccination, and their presence indicates immunity. This test is most often requested to document that immunity rather than to diagnose an illness, since many institutions require proof before starting work or study, and travelers to areas with active outbreaks may want confirmation. A negative or borderline result in someone who has been vaccinated usually leads to an additional dose. Measuring IgG is different from diagnosing an acute measles infection, which relies on IgM antibodies or viral detection rather than on IgG.
