OmegaCheck
- Overview:
-
Fatty acids in the blood reflect what has been eaten over recent weeks, so this panel gives an objective measure of omega-3 and omega-6 intake rather than relying on dietary recall. It reports EPA, DPA and DHA, the main omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish and fish oil, together with arachidonic acid and linoleic acid from the omega-6 family. It also gives combined totals and the ratios between the groups. Higher omega-3 levels have been associated with lower cardiovascular risk in observational studies, and the panel is often used to guide or assess supplementation.
