Oral Glucose + Insulin Tolerance Test over 2 hours (4 Specimens) (OGTT)
- Overview:
-
A fasting glucose shows one moment; this test shows a response. After a fasting sample, you drink a standard glucose solution and further samples are taken over the following two hours, measuring both glucose and insulin each time. The glucose curve shows how effectively sugar is cleared, while the insulin readings show how much the pancreas had to produce to achieve it. That combination can reveal insulin resistance in someone whose fasting numbers still look normal, since a large insulin response can maintain normal glucose for years. The test requires fasting beforehand and staying on site throughout.
