Progesterone, LC/MS

Overview:
Progesterone is released after ovulation and prepares the uterine lining for pregnancy. This version of the test uses liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry, which separates compounds before measuring them and so reduces interference from structurally similar steroids that can affect immunoassay results. That matters most at low concentrations and in people taking hormone preparations. As with any progesterone measurement, timing is central: levels are low before ovulation and rise afterward, so a sample taken roughly seven days before the expected period is used when confirming that ovulation has occurred.
