PT w/INR

Overview:
Prothrombin time measures how long part of the clotting sequence takes to form a clot. Because results vary between laboratories and reagents, the value is converted into an international normalized ratio, or INR, so that a result means the same thing anywhere. Its most common use is monitoring warfarin, where the dose is adjusted to keep the INR within a target range set by the reason for treatment. Prothrombin time also reflects liver function, since the liver makes most clotting factors, and a prolonged time can indicate significant liver disease or vitamin K deficiency.
