Quest AD-Detect Phosphorylated tau217 (p-tau217), Plasma

Overview:
Tau is a protein inside brain cells, and in Alzheimer's disease it becomes abnormally phosphorylated and forms tangles. A specific form, phosphorylated tau217, can now be measured in blood, where levels correlate with amyloid and tau changes in the brain that previously required a PET scan or a lumbar puncture to assess. This test is intended for use within a specialist assessment of cognitive symptoms, not as a general screening test for people without them. A result contributes to a clinical picture that includes cognitive testing and imaging; it does not diagnose Alzheimer's disease on its own.
