Sirolimus (Rapamycin)
- Overview:
-
Sirolimus, also known as rapamycin, is an immunosuppressant medication. It is prescribed most often after organ transplantation to reduce the risk of rejection, and in certain other conditions. The same dose can produce different blood concentrations in different people, and the range where the medication works well without excessive side effects is narrow. This test measures how much sirolimus is actually circulating, which is what allows a prescriber to adjust the dose. It is a therapeutic drug monitoring test intended for people already taking sirolimus, and the timing of the sample relative to the last dose affects the result.
