Trichomonas vaginalis RNA Qualitative TMA
- Overview:
-
Trichomonas vaginalis is a single-celled parasite passed on through sex, and it is among the most common curable sexually transmitted infections worldwide. It can cause discharge, itching and irritation, but a large proportion of people, particularly men, have no symptoms at all and can pass it on unknowingly. This test detects the organism's RNA, which is substantially more sensitive than looking for moving organisms under a microscope, the traditional method. It is treatable with a short course of antibiotics, and partners are normally treated at the same time to prevent reinfection.
