Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
- Overview:
-
Riboflavin is one of the B vitamins. The body uses it to release energy from food and to support skin, eyes, nerves and red blood cell production. It is found in milk, eggs, meat, green vegetables and fortified cereals. Riboflavin is water soluble and is not stored in large amounts, so a regular dietary supply is needed. Deficiency is uncommon where varied food is available, and where it does occur it usually accompanies shortfalls in other B vitamins rather than appearing on its own. Conditions that reduce absorption, restrictive diets and some medications can lower levels.
